Scriptwriting - “How Search Works”
"How Search Works" is a series of five YouTube videos, each under five minutes. My role was to translate the complex technical concepts of Google Search into accessible, engaging content for this audience.
Target audience: Website owners and SEO professionals, anyone interested in how Google search works.
My Process
Review of client brief.
Research/Review of technical topics.
Interview subject matter expert.
Create outline/breakdown featuring each video’s learning objectives, tying those to measurable student learning objectives.
Break down complex topics like crawling, indexing, and serving into understandable segments.
Write scripts with a focus on straightforward explanations.
Create engaging introductions and outros.
Tailor the language to follow SEO best practices.
Revise iteratively with video producer and subject matter expert.
Hand-off to design for storyboarding.
Breaking it down
My primary challenge was the organization of the material. Based on my knowledge of web-viewing trends and my target audience, I developed an outline that would hit all the key points in a reasonable amount of time. Building each script upon the previous one, reinforcing learning and progressively introducing new information.
Reducing the technical complexity without compromising the essence of Google Search operation
I used analogies and real-life examples to make abstract concepts more relatable and understandable.
