Content Design - RCS Business Messaging
The RCS Business Messaging developer website guides app developers and decision makers on integrating and leveraging RCS to enhance customer interactions. As the content designer, I advocated to streamline the site's content and layout to better serve its target audience.
Target audience: App developers, business decision-makers, and project managers.
My Process
Review client brief, focusing on interpreting client requirements and identifying areas for improvement.
Suggest redesign of the content layout.
Write and revise all content on the homepage to enhance clarity and navigation.
A Top-level Challenge
One of the most significant challenges in the RCS Business Messaging website redesign was the absence of a top-level domain. Users were dropped directly into product-specific pages without context.
To address this, I implemented a strategic solution: creating a new top-level domain with a Business Communications landing page for clear introductory context and differentiation between Google Business Messaging and RCS Business Messaging.
The outcome was enhanced user navigation and understanding, leading to a more intuitive website experience.
Reflections and Learnings
One key learning was the challenge of balancing content volume with user engagement. Most people tend to skim rather than read in-depth. This insight aligns with numerous UX studies that emphasize users' preference for scanning over reading on the web.
In hindsight, I would reduce the amount of copy on the site. Given the user tendency to skim, more concise content could potentially enhance user engagement and comprehension.
My approach has always been to use active voice, verbs, and keywords strategically to make the content as accessible and engaging as possible. This technique is particularly effective in capturing the attention of users who skim, as it highlights the most critical information and actions.
This project has been instrumental in refining my content design philosophy. It reinforced the importance of aligning content with user behavior and the continuous need to adapt and evolve strategies to meet user preferences in the dynamic digital landscape.
