Scriptwriting - I/O Code of Conduct
The "I/O Code of Conduct" video ran before each live online session during Google I/O, a large developer conference. I focused on crafting clear, inclusive language to promote respect and diversity, and ensure an understanding of the event's guidelines among a global audience.
Target Audience: Conference attendees (Global)
My Process
Review Google's existing code of conduct and event-specific guidelines.
Write a new script tailored to the event’s voice and tone and keeping in mind the animation limitations. (Some of the animation had been approved for reuse, and I was required to write new material to go along with it.)
Revise iteratively based on team feedback and inclusivity considerations.
A Warm Welcoming Voice
My goal was to balance formality with approachability, making the code of conduct accessible to a diverse audience.
I took on a warm, welcoming voice and tone.
The 75-second video required a lot of information to be packed in (a reminder of the guidelines, where they could be viewed, who to contact, what the consequences were) and the challenge was making it non-aggressive but informative.
To highlight the need for inclusivity and respect, I used the “Golden Rule” as a motto.
